There are only a few westerners that met Meher Baba so it is always a treat to hear the stories directly from these special people. Tom Riley is one of these special people. This is the story of how Tom Riley came to Baba and of his experiences meeting Baba in 1958 and 1962. What makes Tom’s story particularly interesting is his initial Baba contact was Raoul Vidas, who met Baba at Pickfair, the home of Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, in Los Angeles. In 1954, Tom was hired as part-time help to pack Raoul’s belongings. Baba’s picture slipped out from a book as Tom was packing, and Tom’s fascination with this picture led him to ask questions about Baba.

In 1958, Tom went to Myrtle Beach to meet Baba. The Awakener opened Tom’s heart, literally, as Tom felt his heart chakra crack and open. Another transformation occurred in 1962 at the East-West Gathering at Guruprasad. The details of Tom’s awakenings and difficulties traveling to the East-West Gathering inspire us to reflect on His bounty and compassion.
